'Resilience and Connections in a Transforming World' will be the overarching banner for TERRITORIALIS 2024 that is due to be hosted in the beautiful city of Tours in the Loire Valley on 3rd and 4th October 2024. UDiTE members are invited to join their French peers to share their experiences.

UDiTE members gathered in Malta on 5th July alongside Maltese collegues attending their Annual conference in Valetta Malta. The overall theme of the conference was focused on the working relationships between Local Councils on Malta and the new regions that have been created by the Malteste government. UDiTE members and the Executive secretary were invited to given an overview on the situation in their countries of France, Ireland and Belgium. READ MORE

Christophe Verger, vice-president responsible for international relations, passed away "suddenly" whilst on mission for the French federation last week in Quebec City. Hélène Guillet, President of SNDGCT said "This is a tragedy for our federation. Christophe was a remarkable individual who worked with humility and had a passion for sharing. The sharing of values, the sharing of knowledge, sharing beyond his native Limousin and indeed France ," As a colleague, he was fully committed to the promotion of our Federation and what it stands for throughout the world helping all us discover what the job of local authority general manager is like for communities throughout Africa, across the Atlantic, or in the far east....read the tribute to Christophe Verger

UDiTE the European Federation of Local Government Chief Executives joined forces once again with VEOLIA to host a successful EU Green Week 2024 discussion on Innovative & resilient water basin management for cities and regions.The event took place at the EU Committee of the Regions and was professionally moderated by our moderator Tamsin Rose and gave participants a unique insight into emerging water resilience policies, the difference between member states and regions on water hygene regulations, successful solutions and replicable case studies, EU funding cutting edge LIFE projects and the importance of working closely with citizens and industry representatives locally. Our speakers were dran from the water industry, EU water associations, local government chief executive’s who can spoke knowledgeably about their innovative experiences.

UDiTE AND UNSCP hosted a successful conference Local authority Chief Executives facing the challenge of Good Governance and change in Siena on 19th & 20th April 2024.

You will find updates on UDiTEs achievments so far this year under the French presidency.  The Sping saw a close collaboration with UNSCP, our Italian member, on our Siena conference. The Executive team had a stand at the Summit of Regions and Cities in Mons, a key event under the Belgian Presidency of the European Union and finally we were a key actor during EU Green Week 2024, organised by the European Union this year on the theme of water resilience. The annual congress of TERRITORIALIS took place in Bordeaux from 13 to 15 October, where Hélène Guillet was confirmed the new president of the Syndicat National des Directeurs Généraux des Collectivités Territoriales (SNDGCT) for the 2022-2025 mandate after her election on 17th September. She will succeed Stéphane Pintre, who has served four terms and continues as President of UDiTE.  Hélène has been the director general of the Loire-Atlantique management centre since May 2020. Hélène has been a member of the SNDGCT since 2012, vice-president from October 2018, then deputy president from September 2021, Hélène Guillet was DGS for the City of Thouaré-sur-Loire (2001-2006), DGA (2006-2013) then DGS (2014-2015) of the city of Rezé and DGS of the City of Vertou (2015-2020), three municipalities in Loire-Atlantique. In 2019, she was awarded the bronze medal from AFNOR for local authority managers. Her presidency will aim to strengthen involvement in sustainable development objectives, equality, and public-private partnerships. She also aims to kick off new initiatives including "incubator" development committees, to promote dynamic and long-term policy stability. She will campaign for the attractiveness of the profession of general management of local and regional authorities. For local authorities, she will focus on the importance of continued professional development in the sector. She emphasised the importance of working effectively with upcoming local authority professionals, universities, but also, further upstream, at the level of schools and colleges to inspire meaning and content to the public service for future generations.
