2022 : AN INTRODUCTION FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Last updated: 11 Mar 2022
Since January this year, France now holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for a period of six months. So it is a happy coincidence that I now have the honour of presiding over UDiTE, our European association of territorial leaders, which gives us a new opportunity to raise the profile of UDITE on a European level.

Our mission as an association is to raise the profile of the function of the Territorial Leader, to underline their professionalism and to promote the development of good governance, in a context where decisions taken at the European level have significant impacts on the functions of local government. As key officials in local government, this is a permanent challenge. With the 2022-2024 action plan that has just been validated by the Executive Committee, we want to continue to address these challenges. In particular, we plan to intensify our relations with our counterparts at European level, in particular the European Union, the Council of Europe and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. This will involve projects that we will develop in conjunction with all members on the issues that drive them, such as the challenges of the climate, the circular economy, digitalisation, local government reorganisation, increasing the resilience of local government and management... More than ever, we want to meet the expectations of our members. Another highlight of this new presidency is the expansion of UDiTE. I would like to warmly welcome again UNSCP (Italy) and AAPRO (Romania) and thank them for putting their trust in us. This also places responsibilities upon us and we want to increase the capacity and representativeness of UDiTE to meet these and other potential members' expectations. With this expansion, we are also increasing the diversity of our association: it gives the opportunity for you our members to share more members' experiences and best practices on a reciprocal basis. You can count on me and the executive team to continue to develop UDiTE in this way for the benefit of all our member associations and for the benefit of each individual colleague in municipal associations across Europe.
