How diet and exercise can help prevent and treat diabetes

Events - Public

Starting 11 Nov 2020 - 12:30 through to 11 Nov 2020 - 13:30

Diabetes UK will be giving a talk on symptoms of diabetes, risk factors and healthy lifestyle choices and also signposting to publications and campaign materials.

Diabetes is a growing health crisis in the UK with figures showing there are around 4.6 million people living with diabetes – an estimated million of whom haven’t been diagnosed yet.

It is a complex condition with different types of diabetes that can affect people in varying ways depending on factors like age, sex, family history, ethnicity and lifestyle. Whilst there are factors like age and genetics outside of one’s control, improving things like diet and exercise has been shown to help many people prevent and treat diabetes.

This presentation will cover the causes, risk factors, symptoms and complications associated with diabetes, the differences between different types of diabetes and how Diabetes UK can help. We will focus on how eating better, and moving more, can help make positive changes; particularly in the current context where many of us are spending longer periods working from home.
