French Presidency

The French Presidency of UDiTE got underway on the 1st January 2022. Now in its 30th year, Stephane PINTRE, UDiTE's President talks about the opportunites and challenges for this new mandate 2022-2024.  At his first formal engagement for UDiTE, The European Summit of Regions and Cities, held in Marseille in March 2022, we had the chance to catch up with Stephane and talk to him about this five principal priorities for the UDiTE Action Plan 2022-2024 that was approved at the UDiTE Executive committee held on 25th February 2022.

The global context that confronts local government is three fold the ecological transition, the recovery from the COVD-19 pandemic and now war in Ukraine. Recent studies have shown the efficiency with which local government can tackle the impacts of the these global challenges locally as the level of government closest to the citizens able to manage day to day services and promote cohesion throughout the local community. UDiTE  champions the decentralised management of local and regional government and the quality of local authority management to ensure its good governance.

In the following testimonials you can find out more about the UDiTE action plan 2022-2024 and learn more about the 5 priority axes of the UDiTE action plan that will feature throughout the French Presidency over the next 3 years.  The priority for the French Presidency will be to reinforce the organisation structure, improve its function, build its profile and ensure that the association has adequate financial means to carry out the tasks identified by our members and the Executive Committee.

The main lines of action for the mandate shown above have been broken down into five areas. First of all, it is a question of making the internal organisation of the association more sustainable. This will be done by updating the statutes, strengthening the organisation and the link with our consultants, setting up working groups, improving communication, eliminating the language barrier and increasing financial capacity.

A second major priority is to increase the institutional visibility of UDiTE, building on partnerships with European institutions (CoR, CoE) and other institutions at European level.

The third priority aims to strengthen the financial basis of UDiTE in order to give ourselves the means to achieve our ambitions, through new partnerships and the search for financing from European funding.

The fourth priority aims to develop activities at the initiative of UDiTE such as comparative studies, the exchange of best practices and participation in major events, etc.

Finally, UDiTE still needs to expand its network to make it more interesting and powerful: on the one hand by increasing its membership, but also by establishing or formalising links with other organisations such as PRIMO, IIMC/ICMA, Eurocities, and others. As you can see, the ambition for the next 3 years is very high. It is a multi-annual programme that will be followed by continuous monitoring and can only be achieved with the commitment of our member associations.
