UDiTE IS A PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING ORGANISATION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHIEF EXECUTIVES ACROSS EUROPE

The European Federation Local Authority Chief Executive Officers is a European umbrella body that brings together European professional associations for local authority chief executives and in Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Malta, Spain, Portugal and Romania.
The aim of the association is to promote relations between the professional associations of Chief Executives and managing European local authorities, to develop exchanges of information, share professional experiences, to continually advance the role and function of local authorities and to contribute to democracy and territorial policymaking in the European Union.
The UDITE Presidency is currently held by Stephane Pintre on behalf of the Syndicat National des Directeurs Généraux des Collectivités Territoriales for three years until December 2024.
The UDITE 30th anniversary conference took place in Metz on 15th and 16th October, 2021. The UDITE Governing Council elected a new President, Stephane Pintre to success Paul Gatt for 3 years from January 2022. Current President Paul Gatt from Malta presented the achievements of his 3 year presidency despite the onset of COVID -19 pandemic in March 2020 the report is available here nowalong with a 30th anniversary publication. The conference hosted 2 high profile workshops the first a European Week of Regions & Cities 2021 side event Navigating the EU maze to finance recovery: 2021-27 funding for the ecological transition where participants heard from local and regional government experts in Brussels about issues including the European recovery plans, EU Structural Investment Funds 2021-2027, resilience, the ecological transformation, Sustainable Development Goals, managing personnel during the period of deconfinement, accessing EU funding and international cooperation. Local authorities are confronted by a maze of EU & national funding opportunities now as part of the recovery programmes and the European Structural & Investment Funds for the 2021-27 period. That was the theme of the high level European Week of Regions and Cities 2021side event 'Navigating the EU maze to finance recovery: 2021-27 funding for the ecological transition' that took place on 15th October 2021. Over 50 online participants joined local authority Chief Executives at their European and French annual congress online, with representatives from leading European local and regional associations, the EU Committee of the Regions, the OECD and industrial leaders from VEOLIA, to discuss how local authorities across the European Union can make the most of these financing opportunities to realise the ecological transition. Our event gathered over 50 participants including senior decision makers from across the European Union and in France. The EWRC side event hosted some excellent speakers and benefitted from being an integral part of TERRITORIALIS 2021, an very important annual gathering of French local government chief executives, that attracts key decisionmakers in local government from France and the international level. On Monday 28th June 2021, UDITE and its Portuguese member association ATAM, hosted by the Mayor of Loulé , Vitor Aleixo, organised the 2021 #ELOGE awards in the presence of, Luís Leite Ramos, Member of Parliament and Council of European Parliamentary Assembly member and Chair of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development. 7 Municipalities were awarded the ELOGE award for having been judged to have achieved the Council of Europe's 12 principles of Good Governance. Paul Gatt, President of UDITE congratulated the participating municipalities for all their hard work and commitment during a difficult period. The successful municipalities join a pioneering group of #ELOGE accredited local authorities from across Europe. READ MORE
UDITE speaks to Philippe Rossingnol, President for the Brussels Federation of Communal Secretaries, and UDITE member, about his experience as a CEO of one of Brussels's 19 communes, Berchem Saint Agathe, that make up the capital where the 19 Communal secretaries have had to become crisis managers dealing with the day-to-day consequences of the pandemic, support the region with its vaccination campaign, ready communities for deconfinement whilst juggling the day to day execution of essential local policies for local citizens. Another EU Green Week is over attracting a record online audience from citizens and stakeholders around the EU. Dedicated to the EU ambition of a zero pollution, the event zoomed in on efforts to tackle pollution of air, soil and water, creating a world where pollution is no longer harmful for people’s health and ecosystems. UDITE successfully partnered Veolia on 3rd June at 2021 Green Week that took place online from 1st to 4th June 2021 under the banner of ‘Zero pollution – for healthier people and planet’. This theme coincided with the publication of the EU Action Plan toward a Zero Pollution Ambition that is a key action of the European Green Deal. It achieved a record involvement from citizens and stakeholders around the EU. Dedicated to the EU ambition of a zero pollution, the event zoomed in on efforts to tackle pollution of air, soil and water, creating a world where pollution is no longer harmful for people’s health and ecosystems.
