When: 15th & 16th October with the option of attending the French national Congress TERRITORIALIS on the 14th October also.

Where: The UDITE conference will take place in conjunction with the SNDGCT at their annual conference TERRITORIALIS 2021 at the Robert Schuman Congress Centre in Metz. Address : Robert Schumann Conference Centre, 100 Rue aux Arènes, 57000 METZ.

Why attend:

The UDITE conference will see transition from Malta to France. Participants will discuss the main issues that CEOs and DG in local government have confronted during the Maltese presidency that has been dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It will look to the future and the emerging priorities that our colleagues from France will be looking to tackle.  You will  hear more about the European recovery plans and the opportunities for local authorities in the next seven year financing period 2021-2027.  We will be reaching out to our friends at the EU Committee of the Regions, the Council of European Municipalities. OECD plus a number of experts from across our academic network to discuss themes including resilience, managing the ecological transformation, the Sustainable Development Goals, managing personnel during the period of deconfinement and accessing EU funding and international cooperation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible for us all to meet for well over one and a half years now. More than ever, we all recognise now the importance of social contact for our well-being. As Europe’s premier networking organisation for local government chief executives, UDITE wants to bring all of our colleagues together once again in a COVIDs safe environment recognising the importance of networking as a vital component to invest in the future work of our Chief Executives!  -> Time to meet in an international dimension.

As we approach the end of the COVID-19 crisis, the time has come to move on and stimulate the recovery. From the European level to that of the local authorities, we are all talking about the recovery plans. Now is the time for European, national, city and municipal authorities to deliver those plans to help repair the economic, social and administrative damage inflicted by the pandemic. ->  Time to get new ideas and inspiration.

Europe is facing a new challenge. The European Commission is launching a comprehensive survey to question citizens organisations and local and regional authorities about the priorities for the Europe of the future. -> Time for the local sector, and the Local Chief Executives in particular, to join in the debate on this special issue.

France will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the 1st  January 2022 for 6 months at a key moment in the context of elections to Germany and soon France. In addition, Stéphane Pintre, current President of the SNDGCT, will take on the Presidency of UDITE from Malta for a period of 2022-2024. -> Time to support France and Stéphane Pintre in this European mission.

All always, UDITE is ready to face new challenges. It has been in existence for 30 years and can draw on a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise in the European domain and an international network. UDITE’s ambition will continue to play its part as the premier networking organisation for local government chief executives in Europe and to the European Institutions who work on European policies that have impacts at the local level.-> Time to celebrate 30 years of UDITE and look to the future.

On the Friday afternoon (15th October), UDITE will organise, as part of its conference programme, a side event marking the European Week of Regions and Cities  2021 on the theme: “Navigating the EU maze to finance recovery: 2021-27 funding for the ecological transition”, which will guide the territorial leaders on how to meet the financial challenge of the ecological transition.

On Saturday morning 16th October, UDITE is organising a round table on the financial and management consequences of the pandemic for the municipalities.

UDITE CONFERENCE SIDE EVENT 2021 HOSTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EUROPEAN WEEK OF REGIONS AND CITIES

With the European Union about to enter a critical phase in terms of the roll out of the recovery programmes,  new Structural Investment Funds, and now the “Fit for 55” package that is seeking to cut emissions by 55% by 2030 and reaching a net zero balance by 2050 local authorities need to be on the starting blocks now for this next programming period. Fit for 55 is a major new pillar of the Union's climate action and growth strategy for the next 10 years. Are you aware of the Social Climate Fund, and the Just Transition Fund yet?  Significant risks lie ahead for local authorities as an over centralisation of these funds by national administrations could threaten the balanced territorial cohesion and social fairness of the green transition for our communities.  Added to that mix, we have the French Presidency of the European Union kicking off on 1st January 2022 and the Conference on the Future of Europe concluding in Marseille in April 2022. Our expert speakers will shed light on these emerging developments to help you and services make sense of this maze of EU & national funding opportunities to help you make the most of these financing opportunities to drive recovery locally and make the steps towards the ecological transition.
