Local, regional and national representatives from around the world have been invited to gather in Copenhagen for the Local Government Climate Change Leadership Summit.

Invited by Erik Fabrin, President of Local Government Denmark (LGDK), local authorities attending the summit from 2-4 June will meet with a view to discuss their role in the new climate change agreement, which will be in effect in 2012, following the Kyoto protocol.

It is hoped all representatives attending will engage in national-local dialogue and discuss a partnership approach to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
CEMR said local authorities will present the measures they have taken and their achievements on climate and energy issues before calling on national governments to include a reference to local governments and their role to help tackle climate change in the climate change agreement.

The summit, organised by LGDK in cooperation with associated partners, has been described as 'a milestone' on the Local Government Climate Roadmap.
