All Member States of the EU and the Council of Europe have the chance to showcase youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development by becoming the 2011 European Youth Capital.
Launched by the European Youth Forum, the European Youth Capital is a title granted to a European city for one year. According to the Youth Forum, it gives European cities the chance to present a multi-faceted programme over one year, which amongst many things highlights the wealth, diversity and common characteristics of Europe’s “intergenerational approach, and the empowerment of young people throughout the continent”.
The Council for European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) added that the elected city could serve as a model for the development of other European municipalities.
The deadline for applications is 14 April 2009. To find out more and to apply click here.
